Here we have it folks: the weird, hyper-colour, strangely erotic (there’s a shower scene for God’s sake) “Match of the Day” opening titles which were used for one week and one week only for the FA Cup first round edition of the programme during the 1990/91 season before disappearing forever..
The new title sequence also came complete with a new, ultra 1990s, acid house-style rejigged theme tune which sounded like it was composed on a “My First Bontempi” organ and was, as you may have guessed by now, well and truly lousy…
Was it real? Was it all just some terrible hive-mind mirage? Who knows? At least it had the good grace to not stick around.
